Topic: Should i be looking for another job?

I work as a leasing consultant at a 150 unit complex part time. I've been here for a year and I've seen five managers come and go before my current manager came in. He's great and I love working with him but his husband was offered a promotion out of state with a huge salary increase so he will be leaving us soon. In the search for a new manager, our region director came up with the "bright" idea to combine the vacant maintenance supervisor position with the manager position and offer it to someone with no office experience, at all. He would be property manager 2 and a half days out of the week and maintenance supervisor the other two and a half days and our area manager would be acting property manager the two and a half days he's maintenance (while having to do her job as area manager and dealing with issues with the other properties in our area as well). The area manager interviewed this guy after the region director had already made her mind up and I met him when he came to the office for the interview and he is weird. No people skills, no customer service experience, just very awkward. I love this property so much and the residents are so tired of all themanagement changes and they all love our outgoing manager. I know that they would hate to lose me because they've already told me that they would and I get a lot of good reviews from residents on apartment ratings and on the semi-annual surveys we send out. I care about this property so much but I can just see everything going south so fast and I'm not sure I can stick it out through that. I would love to eventually become the property manager here but I need to stay part time for right now because I'm still in college. We have occupancy issues that were actually improving with him but I feel that now with all these changes I have two options: grab a bucket and try to toss water off the boat as it sinks or jump for a lifeboat.

What would you guys do????

Sit down and have a frank conversation with your area or regional. Just go into the conversation from the mindset that you are open to trying a new situation, but lay out the facts of where your concerns are. The only one who can make the decision to leave is you...but I would encourage you to at least give it a shot, instead of making a decision before you see how things will actually go.

Every property needs an experienced manager or they will lose their butt!!! Fair Housing Laws, people skills are a must for resident retention. What about paperwork? Reports? Can he even use the property management software?

Good Luck with that!!!
