Topic: YouTube Maintenance Go-To's

Do you have any YouTube channels that you rely on for maintenance tutorials for yourself or your maintenance techs? Do you feel that YouTube is a viable training option in some cases for maintenance?

This old house has some good ones. I have used several videos for training. The last one was how to rekey a lock. Haven't set any channels.

We make our own in-house videos, because then they will be property specific. Today I filmed my maintenance tech while he described how to backwash the pool filter. Now I don't need to memorize a procedure I'll do maybe once a year, and anyone covering his vacation will know exactly where each and every button, switch, and knob is located so they can get it done in the most efficient manner. :-)

I don't think I'd post the videos on youtube. Every site is different, so following my techs instructions for our equipment somewhere else might cause some expensive damage.

That's a great idea, Rose, and if you added those videos to a property You Tube channel, you could do ones your Residents might utilize - like how to reset their Garbage Disposal, set the alarm in the apartment, program the thermostat, etc. I'm thinking of doing this because we have so many international residents whose grasp of English is great, but their ability to speak it is another thing.

Like most communities, we have many neighbors that can speak and understand spoken English, but comprehending detailed or written instructions is difficult for them. I might go home and make this video tonight!

YouTube is a great resource! I have learned a lot from my own on-line research and YouTube as I have on-site! I've even shared things I've learned with my Service Manager and guys in the shop that even they didn't know! I would think the Service Manager could be able to search YouTube and create a useful channel.
