J,

Great question for the discussion boards -

I would say - being a part of something bigger than myself is a huge inspiration.

Have a fine day, sir.

J. - a good fight, a good cause to throw my weight and core behind... the potential for growth... sunlight... and the color green... oh, and Nehi grape soda.
All inspirations for greatness.

Here is an old quote that I pulled from a poster some 20 years ago...it has always inspired me greatly:

"On the Planes of Hesitation,
lie the blackened bones of countless millions,
who at the Dawn of Victory, sat down to rest,
and in resting, died."

Press on, regardless.

Nice question huh! What inspires me at work is the money I'll be earning and the purpose of the money. Aside from myself, I help my family and I also give to the ministry. It is good to have a real purpose and not just spend it.

My 3 1/2 year old son often asks this in the morning;
What are we doing today? Where are we going? He cannot wait to see what the day has in store for him regardless of what the previous day was like... even if "bed time" was a challenge.
Seeing that kind of excitement is a refreshing perspective and always gives me a boost.

I just love the posts that have come from this question. What inspired me today--someone who took the time out of their busy schedule to talk to me on the phone an hour ago, just so I could bounce some industry thoughts of her!

Seeing Brent Williams respond quickly to what is a perceived need on the part of one of his members today and respond quickly to take care of it. Way to go Brent.

My first thought when I saw the title of this thread was 'Volunteering'. I frequently work with Habitat and it always inspires me and even though I leave a jobsite physically tired sometimes I still feel strangely energized and renewed. I think Mike's post really hits the nail on the head on why:

Thanks Lisa. Volunteering is very inspirational. You are doing it without thought of repayment at all and that certainly makes it count. I agree with you on Mike Brewer's comment. Each day is an opportunity to be inspired or to inspire someone else. If this is a daily practice for everyone, what difference do you think that would have on our daily routine?

Our family has been involved with the Ride for Kids/ Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States since 1992. This is a charity that is near and dear to our family, as my MOM is a brain tumor survivor (September marks 20 years since her first diagnosis and surgery). Motorcyclists are known for being involved with a number of different charities; one of the most notable is the Love Ride that Los Angeles Harley Davidson puts on for the MDA. I even wanted to do ONE, just to say I have done it; but I read a report that said that one ride brought in over $1M, which is great, except that over $800K of that went to the costs of paying for the ride and the celebrities for their time. There is a problem with that. Ride for Kids events put 97% of all funds raised into research, family support programs, and college scholarships.

We know we have success because, with improvements in technology based on the funded research we have seen dramatic progress. When we became involved, a child diagnosed with a brain tumor was given 3-9 months to LIVE... NOW that same child; with the same kind of diagnosis, at the same age.... would graduate high school, college and begin a family of their own. PLUS a NOBEL prize was won in 2007 based on research that we helped to FUND!

My husband and I have a special room with two matching red leather chaises longues where we read and share spiritual books of wisdom. It is a special time that focus me on the real "treasures" of life and keeps me grounded toward serving others. This special time together (3 to 4 times a week) keeps me inspired!

There is inspiration in even the definition of the word. inspiration |ˌinspəˈrā sh ən|
noun
1 the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, esp. to do something creative
• the quality of having been so stimulated, esp. when evident in something : a rare moment of inspiration in an otherwise dull display.
• a person or thing that stimulates in this way : he is an inspiration to everyone.
• a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea : then I had an inspiration.
• the divine influence believed to have led to the writing of the Bible.

2 the drawing in of breath; inhalation.
• an act of breathing in; an inhalation.

ORIGIN Middle English (in the sense [divine guidance] ): via Old French from late Latin inspiratio(n-), from the verb inspirare (see inspire ).Inspiration is from the greek word Theopneustos meaning given by inspiration of God. From theos and a presumed derivative of pneo; divinely breathed in -- given by inspiration of God.

When I feel divinly inspired I often repeat the word outloud "Theos"! I love the idea of God breathing an idea into my soul!

Just the thought inspires me!

Toni, I love the idea!

I am actually preparing to give the gift of dream board making to my significant other. I am slowly piecing together words, phrases, and magazines to use. I have printed photos of our families and plan to give him some of the tools over the holidays... (he will need to find the others on his own since its HIS dream board) I think its a great way to stay focused and be inspired.

I get inspired by great ideas. I am also inspired by the laugh and giggles of children, they are so free and giving with their love. Take a drive across our great nation and take a look at the mountains, the beautiful hills and valleys, lakes and oceans, so much to be inspired about. I love this question!

My family inspires me the most! Working in our industry we are able to connect and sometimes help other families. I am able to reflect on my family when reaching out to a resident that might be in need of assistance. :P

I'm inspired by my grandchildren, their seemingly endless energy, spontaneity and taste for new experiences. A long walk in rural setting always gives me inspiration as well, now days I don't want it to be in the snow though.

At work, a good challenge inspires me. Working in the affordable and senior market, I am regularly inspired and humbled by my residents when I am fortunate enough to meet some of them. My priorities sure get a wake up call some days.

In my personal life, I help coach a high school sports team. I have been doing this for about 8 years. I am so honored to have been able to have helped take a program from its inception to become a powerhouse team in our state. The athletes inspire me with their desire to train, compete and win, as well as to be physcially strong and to work to get there. These kids never quit! And the kids themselves; they are funny, sweet and loving. Nothing like a group hug from them when I am with them!

I have found that from time to time it is necessary to block out some time to brainstorm. With a new year around the corner, I spent some time brainstorming ways to new ways to get in front of people that create a successful environment. I always find these sessions inspiring because I usually generate several new ideas to work on.
