If you have a play area for the children, what does it look like? Do you have it checked each day for cleanliness and take out toys that are either broken or have missing parts?

I don't have room for a play area in my office, but I keep colorful fruit and veggie magnets on my file cabinets for them to play with, and I have a bowl of treats on my desk that includes candies, stickers, and small gumball-machine type toys to give out.

We have a small table set up with crayons, markers, and coloring sheets. It is a awesome thing for prospects. We can get their full attention and the kids have something fun to do. I think this helps give our prospects something to remember. Also it is nice for our residents when they come in with their children but need to talk in private.

Um..... So....No one has taken Fair Housing? You cannot designate anything for "children" or people with families....

Good question, Dawn!
I think having kid-focused features is OK. The original intent of adding families to the fair housing law was to protect families with children, so a fun amenity to benefit families should be ok. The people who wouldn't benefit from this would be non-families, who don't receive the same protection of their interests. At least I think that's how it can be interpreted.

Everyone is welcome to color! And some people other than children do! It doesn't say for kids only or even kids zone. Or only those families with children may color. And yes I have taken my share of fair housing courses!

I'm guilty of this! The office crayons are more often than not in my desk than anywhere else.

I tried having a corner in the clubhouse for small children because they are the most distracting for parents. They seem to prefer to climb all over their parents instead of playing with whatever I have. I even had a high chair to sit them in. NO WAY!!!

Waste of time. I just ignore them and try to keep the parents attention as much as possible.

If that was the case then we also wouldn't be able to have a playground outside.
