Did You Know: Facebook Prefers Businesses to Create Fan Pages?
How to get started:Go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
1. Begin building your page by clicking the "edit page" link.
2. Upload a profile picture. This will be the thumbnail picture that appears in the user's fan box and on other pages, such as search results.
3. Edit the Information fields. Text in these boxes will surface the page when users search for keywords.
4. Upload videos or photos to get the conversation started. This will also bring color and life to the page.
5. Create a few wall posts or discussion topics to help users get warmed up and feel comfortable posting.

I don't know how I missed this blog post the first time, but great how-to guide!

Here's my problem with Facebook pages: they're 100X less "social" than personal profiles. I can't write on someone's wall. I can't update my status. I can't leave comments or say that I like other people's posts. It's a lot harder to get Fans than it is to get Friends.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's a heck of a lot more work. I'll keep working on my business pages, but until Facebook lets brands be more social, I'm going to keep breaking their rules and creating personal profiles for those same businesses.

Last week my company, MyNewPlace released its Facebook implementation, which allows users to post properties to their profiles for feedback. We are the first ILS to try this, I'm hoping it will add visibility for my clients. http://www.inman.com/news/2009...oes-social

The main problem with Kijiji (besides the name) is that you have to pay for making your links active. I'm not sure how much they charge, so it may not be material, but just a thought...

Are your links actually "live"? (i.e., can somebody actually click on them or is it just normal text?)

The new pages are a huge improvement!
There are still a few things that make the profiles more social, but I think it's going to be much easier to drive traffic now that businesses can leave status updates that will appear in the newsfeeds of their fans. On Facebook, if it doesn't show up in the newsfeed, it's like it never happened.
