A Whole Lot Happening In 5 Short Years

It struck me today that we started Creativity For Rent 5 years ago this fall.  At its inception in 2004:
•    Facebook didn’t exist.  Today it has 70 million US users.
•    Nobody was Tweeting because there was no Twitter.
•    Companies were cutting edge to the extreme if they offered online availability.
•    If you missed the Super Bowl, you couldn’t check out Janet J’s wardrobe malfunction because there was no YouTube.
•    The iphone hadn’t been invented.  There was no app for that.

How times have changed.

Could not agree more. 2 years ago I was still training my staff at my former job on how to make a word document, how to log on to the internet, and how to make an invoice in Quickbooks. They are older than I am, so I had to deal with the typical comments "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" "We are not young like you" I said to them, if you do not get on board now you will not be prepared for the future. All of them still had 10-15 years left before retirement. Unfortunately they would not listen to me and that company is about to go bankrupt (not twittering was not the sole reason) Bottom line, times are changing quickly and we need to strongly encourage our people that we need to be ahead of the curve.

I am communicating more messages to clients on social networking sites then on my own website email address. I check messages in three places to be sure I haven't missed anyone. I booked a seminar the other day on Facebook IM - while a member of the education committee in the meeting used her facebook app on her iPhone to IM me questions about availability and fees!!! Are you kidding me!!! We sent the invoice today!!!
