Networking Tips for the Multifamily Industry

Networking Tips for the Multifamily Industry

Networking is an important part of the job in almost every industry, and multi-family is no exception. But we understand that networking doesn't come easy to everyone, so we put together a few tips on how you can maximize your networking skills.

Attend industry events: Attending industry events, such as apartment association meetings in your area, creates opportunities for you to network with people in your industry and learn from your peers.

Stay connected: Schedule a lunch or coffee date once a month with someone in the industry. This can be a friend with a similar job, someone you met through a networking event, an old client or potential new client. Sitting down to talk gives you the opportunity to touch base and learn about their current goals and challenges and how it relates to you and your work.

Connect on LinkedIn: If you meet someone new within the industry, reach out to them on LinkedIn. You can also join a wide variety of groups, from industry related to alumni associations and more.

Join industry organizations and clubs: Industry organizations are a great way to meet people and stay on top of the industry buzz. Many organizations and clubs typically host quarterly seminars and networking events related to industry hot topics. They are a great way to meet peers, learn and build out your network!

There are many benefits of networking, including expanding your knowledge of the multifamily industry, meeting new people in your area and increasing exposure for your company. Share your best networking tips in the comments below!

I'm all about networking, and it baffles me why so few people in the property management industry are in favor of it.

In my market, FREE landlord forums take place monthly for property managers. Each month there is a different topic and free legal advice from a local attorney. Out of many thousands of rental properties, only a dozen people show up.

There are Chamber of Commerce meetings in every city I've ever heard of for businesses to network with each other, but I've never met another attendee from my industry.

I volunteer at our local annual industry trade show to network with other industry professionals.

Many city, police, and fire departments hold free training events. Last year I attended a police citizens academy, a fire department training, and a free all-day landlord training sponsored by the city.
