Postlets Is Dead. What Every Postlets User Needs to Do Right Now.

Postlets Is Dead. What Every Postlets User Needs to Do Right Now.

So Zillow finally took Postlets for that long-overdue stroll behind the barn.

Not that Postlets didn't have it coming. The last round of changes gut nearly all of its interesting features, including the listing feed URL and multi-page listing portfolios. But, hey, a little ceremony and heads-up would've been nice.

Is there anywhere to send flowers? Make a donation? And what about the tens of thousands of lost, bereaved Postlets' users?

Before you do anything else, get your Postlets gallery link up and running again. Zillow should have emailed you this notice: "Important News: Postlets Is Now Zillow Rental Manager". Find it. Follow the link and create a new password. Your old Postlets gallery link goes to one of various Zillow dead-end pages until you do this.

Now here's the rest of what we have pieced together.

  1. All Postlets galleries are gone forever.
  2. Once you've created that new password with Zillow Rentals Manager, your old Postlets gallery redirects to your new Zillow profile page, which includes a list of your on-market listings.
  3. We think that Zillow profile page is your new gallery, such as it is. The links from your on-the-market listings lead to plain vanilla Zillow listing pages. (UPDATE :: If you need any assistance here during the transition, reach out to Zillow at zillowrentalmanager.zendesk.)
  4. All traces of the old Postlets are six feet under. Anything you don't see in Zillow Rentals Manager (such as syndication outside of Zillow Rental Network) might well be gone. (UPDATE :: Zillow says: "Syndication to the rest of the sites is still available." Phew.)

These statements are is based on our analysis of the situation thus far. Please be mindful that everything above is nothing more than conjecture based on the information we have at hand.

We all need to keep in mind that Postlets was a free service. Zillow is within its rights to do what it deems necessary for its business. And I must confess some bias. In all of our interactions with them, Zillow has never been anything but gracious to ShowMojo. I'm sure these changes make complete sense for Zillow and their long-term vision.

Postlets is dead. Long live Zillow Rental Manager.

Zillow reached out with some good answers! Those updates have been incorporated into this post.

Postlets.com was a great way to post and cross post availability in a professional post and was user friendly. Zillow basically just bought the rights to most of the free online rental advertising sites. I had 10 communities on their $10 pay per lead program from 2014-mid 2015. Due to a weird circumstance at one property, I happened to audit the billings of several of the communities and found MAJOR accounting anomalies and no one was able to justify what I found and we terminated our contract based on what I perceived as fraud. After several months of wrangling Zillow removed $4500 in charges from all of the invoices I put a freeze on payments when I discovered the issue that had continued to accrue. Immediately after this was done I am assuming they thought we would then start using their New "Pay-for-Performance" accounting set up. I refused because there was no way to determine where the lead came from initially since they purchased Postlets.com and the cross post affiliation sites. If we are doing all that work posting and the posts cross posts to the 10 other sites, why would I pay Zillow for the lead? They blocked postings for those 10 communities and we were only able to copy & paste the HTML coding for Craigslist postings on those communities. I know this because none of the additional 16 communities were blocked from Postlets.com or cross postings, just the properties that were on the Zillow Pay-Per-Lead contract. I have been using Apartmentlist.com, which is pay-per-lead internet listing site with call center added into our Onesite as a Realpage Exchange Partner & we received over 200 leads at one large community & got 4 leases from their referrals. They pre-qualify the leads in advance and I love their administrative staff. Sorry this sounds like a pitch for them, but its bad customer service vs good customer service at the end of the day.

Does this affect investors who post their SFR deals to the site for the syndication feature?

Randy, based on the communication we received from Zillow, anyone who completes the transition from Postlets to Zillow Rental Manager will still receive the old syndication features.
