U Store It That is Really About You

I came across an interesting twist on the self storage concept today, and just had to share.

Storagebymail.com offers free round-trip shipping to a centralized warehouse where your boxes are kept until you need them back. All you have to do is download a label (they even have an app for that), schedule a USPS carrier pickup and pack your boxes. That’s it. The price is $29 per month for 5 boxes, $49 for 10.

Easy breezy. Somebody else does all the work. Convenient. And a new solution to that old objection, “not enough closet space”.

Take a peek. They’ve taken the U Store It concept and truly made it all about you.
Let me know if you have tried this service and what you think.

Thanks for the tip, Lori! Seems a bit expensive for the convenience, but definitely an interesting idea. Regardless, I'm glad you brought the concept up - We keep hearing about the coming boom in multifamily because of the boomers, but one of the very important elements is their downsizing of their home. Whether StorageByMail is the solution or another, there are significant business opportunities with partnerships with storage companies, I think!

Brent, I agree it is a little pricey, but think about it - No time spent physically researching storage facilities, it's eco-friendly because you don't have to rent a bigger space than you will need and you don't have to drive to the storage site to dig through your stuff and drag it home. All you have to do is let them know you want your stuff and there it will be. Seems like some people would be willing to pay for that convenience. I think the integrity of the storage facility also holds some appeal.
Think about this concept for students - store your stuff away for 3 months and get it back when you need it, rather than dragging it across the country to your parents house.
