Topic: You got the job! Or you didn't. Professionalism in following up.

I am currently on the search for a Property Manager's position in the Houston market. I have interviewed on several occasions and I have heard on most of the occasions that they would be getting back with me in regards to the position. And not one single time has someone followed up with me. I feel this is extremely unprofessional. I do a courtesy follow up email within 24 hours of interviewing, thanking them for their time. If I don't hear back with them within five days a will either email or call them to follow up regarding their decision. Does anyone else feel the same way, that when they say the are going to follow up with you regarding the position, they should follow up? Even if it is a quick short email that says they have decided to pursue other candidates?

I have to agree! I recently was on the market for a Property Management position and rarely got a follow up call or email. This was very frustrating as I felt very good about the interviews. It doen't seem professional at all.

Have had the same problem, I am very qualified along with several designations. In my mid 50's very fit and active and think they figure out my age and that shuts the door! Or maybe DM doesn't want to hire someone with more designations than they have?

Don't despair. Sometimes the person doing the interviewing is "not in charge of the follow up" because the company's HR department is. And, as we know, while a candidate anxious for feedback, the HR person may be bogged down dealing with a hundred issues a week. If the DM, RPM, or community manager is able to follow up, they may also be dealing with a heavy To Do list, too, and following up with candidates keeps getting pushed further on their list.

I was once in this same position, and persisted by following up with both Manager and Owner, even bringing snacks and treats a couple of weeks later to the property to "check in" and was offered the position a couple weeks later.

Sometimes, as a job seeker, we have to rise above our idea of what others should do and take the professionalism to the next level to get what we want and deserve.

I am also close to 50. Is it an age thing? I don't have the designations but do have a lot more experience. I know not to outprice myself because I know that will hinder me over a younger candidate. But when someone says they are going to follow up, there should be a quick follow up.
