We are in the design stage of a 280 unit community. The local municipality is requiring recycling for apartment communities. The municipality offers one container per X number of units. I don't really want their containers. We use a compactor for trash. It's proposed to be located at an exit (only). I'm thinking in terms of a central recycling receptacle and hiring a full-time person for valet trash pickup. With valet, there's the question about the individual receptacles. What are others doing?

Thomas, in this particular case as you have outlined it, what others are doing in other states or municipalities may not apply to yours. The rules and regulations may be more or less stringent. What I would do is if you belong to a local apartment association in your area, is to go to them and find out what the options are and what in their experience are others doing.

Then armed with that information look at what you want to do, and get your RVP what you have and see if the RVP would be in agreement with going to the local municipality and discussing the option you have. They may also have information on what is happening in other areas and can give added weight to working out a win, win situation with the municipality. Does that make sense?
