Hey Nate, let me start with saying that I really enjoy your blogs. This last one went some place that I didn't expect- it began with a statement on political correctness and ended with an invitation to go out into the world and seek out those who most need our kindness...both are issues that I can get behind.
On the first note, we should not be ashamed of wishing each other a Merry Christmas. I have never been offended by someone's Christianity or Judaism or Muslimism, etc. The assumption that someone could be offended by a wish of joy and happiness that is wrapped in our own spiritual beliefs is ridiculous. I am happy when Jews wish me a Happy Hanukkah and I don't share their faith. Hell, I'd enjoy a Happy Festivus if it was offered. This is one area to totally ignore political correctness (I ignore the other ones too).
And as to your 2nd issue, you are absolutely right. Each of us has differing responibilities and varying bank accounts and time allotments. One thing to remember, especially this time of year, is that while it may be easy to give food or dollars, sometimes the thing that means the most is the gift of time. A couple of hours with the neglected can make all the difference in their world. A simple game of checkers or listening to someone's stories can do as much as a hot plate of food. And it is amazing how much it recharges our own souls.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Ross
