We are trying to increase social media engagement with our property teams, as a way of increasing/enhancing communication and fostering a true team environment. What does your company do with social media that you like / don't like/ would love to see more of?

Not sure if this helps, but it's a relevant thing:. We've internally adopted a strategy that made blogging more accessible. We launched a year ago, incentivizing all pieces of content within our 'specifications' with local comedy show tickets. It's been a hit and it's helped our blog pick up some really important organic rankings. The key to the success? As part of the launch team, we showed our dedication to the project by proving our commitment to it and making it a very thoughtful campaign. Simple things go a long way IMO... Also, the comedy gave folks some fun bonding opportunities.

Go beyond the usual suspects like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, I look for social media sites that are tailored more specifically to my business: real estate. Sites such as Biggerpockets, Activerain and localism let advisers like me upload my portfolio so that it can be viewed by anyone interested in my work.

Alicia,

Which outlets do you recommend? Are there any that you would say would probably best to avoid?

Social media platform only work if you have engaged followers on your profile. There are lots of ways to engage audiences on these channels.

Effective Tactics to Try

Facebook: Boost your Facebook posts to get more exposure for them (simply make certain to reach the ideal individuals by entering your targeting preferences).
Twitter: Conduct a Twitter chat with your followers by suggesting questions or offering your own bits of knowledge (e.g. things you want home purchasers and dealers to know).
Pinterest: Pin videos highlighted on your YouTube channel to get more individuals to see your how-to clips, meetings, and listing tours.
Google+: Conduct live Hangouts for leads and followers who want to make inquiries or potentially find out about a specific real estate topic.
Instagram: Put on your graphic designer cap and create pictures that promote open houses.

Social Media is one of the fastest and least expensive ways to reach a large audience with minimal effort while keeping in touch with your database!
