Curious what other properties are doing in Texas regarding the new open carry law that will go into effect Jan 1, 2016.
Are you restricting your office and common areas? Are you hosting team meetings with additional training? Are you sending out letters to your residents?

We are still discussing. Have you heard any recommendations, lease changes or commentaries from TAA?

I found a few articles that I found helpful. We plan on putting signs at our entrance, office and all common areas. I am preparing an acknowledgement for our employees that firearms and ammunition are not to be carried on person and if brought on property they must be kept in locked vehicle. I also intend on sending a reminder notice to the residents outlining what is in the lease contract; that weapons are not to be displayed in the common areas.

It should also be noted that there are guidelines for the sign as for as size of letter and the wording that has to be on the sign in English and Spanish for Texas. The sign should be at least 30" x 30" and the lettering in 1" block lettering. You can get these in aluminum, plastic, and label/sticker.
