How does your property keep track of bikes on complimentary bike storage racks? We have, what I think, are some abandoned bikes & it's just plain overcrowded. I'm considering bike permit stickers. Pros/cons?

I finally just removed the ones that I thought were abandoned and stored them for a few weeks before discarding. No one ever called so I figured they were past residents.

We tag every bike with a note that says something like “we’re spring cleaning! If this tag is not removed by x date, or your bike is not parked in the designated bike parking spot it will be removed by management”

What do you do with the old bikes that are never claimed? Would be great to do a bike auction or something like that and donate proceeds to a non-profit in area?

Many police departments will do a bike drive for kids in less fortunate neighborhoods. Contact yours and see if they would be interested.

The last time I did this I did a combo of what Kendall & Jennifer said - notes on bikes (& in the newsletter) & then pulled the ones w/o replies...stored for a bit...then donated them.

We use bike permits, one permit per person. Twice a year we go through the bikes and tag the ones that don’t have permits, broken, look abandoned for removal. They have a week to check bike or it will be removed. The bikes we remove are donated to a local non profit that fixes them then donates them.
