Birds!!! Do y'all have a problem with birds building nests on the fire sprinklers on patios? What do you do about them? We knock them down and they rebuild them. We have broken sprinkler heads trying to get these rock hard nests down. Oh and the fake owls do not work. The birds just stand on their heads and poop on them!!!

HELP!!!!!

And the fire sprinkler inspection people fail you! But in Texas these birds are protected so the Game Warden issues big fines if you tear them down. We refer the local fire Marshall to the game warden and haven’t heard who won yet!

Birds rely heavily on their ability to see colors - from finding a mate to picking the ripest berries. Bright colors tend to attract a variety of birds, including blue jays, humming birds, orioles, warbles and goldfinches.

- Even darker grays, browns and dull greens are likely to attract birds with cautions temperaments like quail, doves and ground feeders. These colors comfort birds, and create a feeling of safety.

- One color that the majority of birds avoid is white. A dull or bright white signals alarm and danger to birds, causing them to avoid those areas.

We used to paint the ceilings in the breezeways a shade of blue. One property I was at had owls mounted in the breezeways. Both deter the swallows from nesting. Don't take the nests down, Swallows are a protected bird and heavy fines can be assessed.

We specialize in bird control solutions for multi family properties. The key is long term control and aesthetically pleasing methods. You don’t want the birds, but definitely don’t want the residents noticing the deterrents.

This is a very common problem - in some areas, like Asheville, are a bird sanctuary and it’s illegal to knock them down. However bird waste can wreck a patio or breezeway in a hurry and you are permitted to move the nest but there are regulations which I don’t know the extent of but are along the lines of having to move the nest to a tree or spot that is in very close proximity to the original location of the nest and you can’t damage the nest in the process - and I believe it may even be recommended that you hire a professional such as pest control vendor to move it. Moving it can be tricky if the nest was made by barn swallows (common asheville bird) because they made their nest out of mud. HD Supply sells a giant nylon bird that is essentially the same concept as a scarecrow - it’s not incredibly unsightly and it works pretty well.

Was hoping to find a more pleasing to the eye solution. Thinking about some small 3×3 self adhesive mirrors to glue behind the sprinkler head. If they see their reflection they'll think it's another bird and leave.....maybe???

There's some product called bird be gone. We spray it around the sprinkler heads and it keeps them away.
