How do properties with pets or pests battle fleas?

Was accused from a resident today of bringing fleas to our property with our wood chips (fresh chips not bark dust)

I ask as, though they are not happy with it, this was not the cause as there were fleas on the property before as my dog has had them since we moved to this property due to the squirrel population I assume. We have it under control in our home now, but would like to see what other properties are doing to help their battle?

I’m not sure how large your property is, but you can buy a flea/bug killer at HD or Lowe’s that is speed on the ground with a spreader. If you are able to do this, this will eliminate the issue outside. Interior fleas should be addressed with pest control company, as they can be challenge to conquer if there is an infestation

The flea/bug killer is in the lawn and garden section with the other big killers, etc.

Thank you for this. I will talk to our landscaper see what he will do...

We are 5 acres of not a lot of lawn but a lot of chip areas ..

So far my dog and her dog are the only people who have made mention of them.. but treating won't hurt

you’re welcome! If your dog and your residents dog has/had them, they are definitely lurking around.

The treatment can also be placed in flower beds, chip areas, etc. You would definitely want to notify your residents if you do treat, as they would want to keep their kids/pets out if treated areas until the area is safe. I believe that you water the areas after treatment and it is safe for pets/kids after it has dried.

5 acres is a pretty large area to treat. Maybe your pest control company has a better solution? I’ve never treated exteriors at my properties. You may also encourage your residents to use flea preventative in their pets to reduce the risk of them infesting their homes. Amazon seems to have the best pricing on quality flea preventative. Good luck!!

where are you located? Fleas are worse in areas that don’t get hard freezes, as they do not die off as they do in areas that do have hard freezes.

Our pest control company recommended asking the landscapers to address it. We have quite a large property & lost of grassy areas. We had a very mild winter, so fleas are BAD this year.

Fleas are horrible little parasites leaving you with a body filled with itches. If your house is infested by them, try to react quickly by trying different DIY ways like:

- Flea Bombs

Care should be taken when using them because some flea bombs have chemicals that can be harmful to humans and pets.

- Flea Traps

Traps use no chemicals and are perfectly safe to use. They are basically inexpensive but very effective.

- Flea Sprays

Flea sprays are only used for topical treatment. It will kill adult fleas but they will not kill flea eggs. So, you may have to use flea sprays for several weeks before your flea infestation in the home is eliminated.

The flea infestation in the home is serious and needs to be addressed immediately. If all these methods fail, consult the pest exterminator NJ for the long-lasting solutions as they are experienced enough to handle the situation well.
