I'm interested in knowing what different companies are offering their employees in terms of rental discounts. The company I work for offers 20% off monthly rent for any of our properties. What policies do your companies have? Thanks!

We are 50% for all employees except managers. Managers receive $500.00 off.

I think 20% is pretty standard! That is what my last few companies offered. Student housing is sometimes more!

The IRS got involved and said we had to include discounts/free rent in the employee's pay and tax it. 20% kind of became standard since it keeps companies from having to deal with the tax issues.

Free rent for our managers (the majority of our properties have an employee unit set aside where the market rent is $0.00 so no technical discount.. LIHTC properties) or any employee occupying an employee unit. It varies on the market units from 20% to Free. We also offer electric reimbursement of half up to $75 monthly

We offer 20% off. If we need to negotiate and give more that is a taxable fringe benefit and they pay tax on any additional discount.

Federal government says max discount is 10% without being taxed on the discount unless the position is required to live onsite

When I was running a management company, I gave a fixed dollar amount instead of a percentage. That stopped complaints from employees that one person would get a bigger discount on a larger apartment than someone is a smaller one. This way, they could choose whatever apartment home they wanted and the same discount dollars applied.

I miss the days of free rent as well, although the rent then was much more reasonable.
All the perks are gone from the apartment industry, along with the reasonable rents.
Instead of one job, you have one person with MANY jobs. Oh and nowadays, you work for all the mail and package delivery services. Add postal to the many other jobs you do.

I was always on call 24-7 as a manager.
It made it so much easier to handle all the emergencies being right there on site.
The free rent was a perk to the downside of sometimes having to work all day and all night.
20% discount how ridiculous. Apts. these days are upward of $1000.00 to 2000.00 a month depending on family size. I'm not sure how much a leasing agent makes these days but it's not stable enough to pay rent.
20% discount means you will work for your money to give it right back to them for rent.
Just doesn't seem right. You are there living on the property basically security for the property as well add that to the other many jobs you have.
Being there 24-7 and available at a moments notice just doesn't mean anything these days.
20% discount is not anything but an insult.
