Yes, or sub par software that makes you create multiple reports rather than one or two efficient ones. Such as Yardi compared to Entrata.

Girrrlllll do not get me started! Or my personal favorite when you have to send a report but then you also have to summarize what’s in the report in your email....WHY AM I EVEN ATTACHING A REPORT IF I HAVE TO SUMMARIZE IT!!

Im not trying to sound snooty and maybe it’s just because I’ve been in the business 33 years but I have never had a hard time getting my work done. Delegation is key. It may also be because I’m OCD. I am a little old school and each office employee has an agenda book. With a larger staff we would meet on Friday and schedule next weeks work. They would write theirs down in their agenda on the day it was due and I would write everything on mine including what I needed to do. Every day I would check to see if they got their work done and check it off as it was completed. If needed we would carry it over to the next day. I also made sure everyone could do each other’s jobs so when someone was out we didn’t miss a beat. When a coworker was out for a day a week or longer the rest of the team did their work so when they came back they had nothing to catch up on and found truly enjoy being away.

I’ve been on both sides: lots of reports versus once a month as a CM.
I will say that if you didn’t spend your time writing reports, you’ll spend it dealing with other things that will be time consuming such as technology issues, make ready process, new policy being rolled out without trial/test which consistently creates problems onsite. Residents demands/midrise highrise also play a huge factor in not always getting my job done before 6pm.
To top it off, if you live in Texas, the mother of nature won’t leave you alone. I am fine being short-staffed (it’s not uncommon in our industry) as long as operational process is streamlined and transparent communication between onsite and corporate.
