I am testing out at my community with my service team now. I was surprised when only 2 of my 8 techs wanted to take this schedule. I expected everyone to want to participate. The others are waiting until the next payroll period and seeing what the feedback is from the 2 that are testing it. I would love that option and I think its a nice perk to he able to offer

I was just speaking of this and want to do it so bad for all of our team. We are open 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm and I would love it and so would my team

I love the idea, but my experience is that it's extremely difficult for a maintenance supervisor to go an entire week day without being bothered. If your phone is ringing all day, you're not "off" just unpaid

I have 540 apts, built in the 70s and my team respects each othets time off and unless it is a dire emergency we do not bother each other on our time off. Especially the Service Manager

I bet there are a lot of "dire emergencies" at a massive, old property that would require a maintenance supervisor's attention on a daily basis. Just sharing my experience with you

Fire, flood or blood is what I tell folks. We've gotten used to having instant gratification for dire things that are not dire. Cell phones have ruined our personal lives.

Absolutely agree. I have some customer complaints about how we don’t value them and some totally understand.
I ask them if they will come serve my meal to me when they are off and they usually retort with a smart ass nooo (or word it to whatever profession they are in) then there is generally that awkward aha moment when the realize the perspective.

I just had a conversation with someone about changing the way business operate. With the continuation of the pandemic, businesses need to re-assess their operational practices to include combining full automation with some manual labor. This combination, if streamlined properly, could allow for shorter physical working hours and remote work successfully. If businesses can figure out how to transition to a non 40 hour work week, this would minimize daily rush hour traffic, allow for social distancing and ultimately minimize the spread of COVID. Businesses need to start thinking out the box and be more solution focused instead of reactionary if we are going to get ahead of this pandemic.

What I’m suggesting is businesses should figure out how to transition into a non 40 hour work week. Where everyone is on the same work day schedule. The schedule would need some tweaking for maintenance. They do not have to work 40 hours if the team work hours are scheduled in stagger shorter shifts.

But that means more on call shifts and after “hours shift” I’d rather work 4 10s and have a 3 day weekend .

Ok with 40 years in maintenance, if part of team worked Monday to Thursday and the other side work Tuesday to Friday each would have a three day weekend. You can alternate weeks to keep it fair. I would go for this.

If there was enough staff you could roll a day off and have 3 days off every week. Week 1 Monday off and sat Sunday, week 2 tuesday off and Saturday and Sunday week 3 Wednesday Saturday and Sunday when you get to week 5 and 6 you realize a Friday, saturday and sunday, Monday off. It would be a killer rotating 410 work schedule.. IMO
