And others that show up for the interview, get hired, then don't show up for orientation or if they make it to orientation they don't show up for work

I reach out to people that post on indeed for exact position they posted for and then they say, due to medical reasons they are not yet returning to work. I believe for unemployment they must show they are attempting to work but that is why they never show or pursue further. Certainly other reasons can exist but this is happening all too often from so many companies.

We’ve seen multiple people go through multi step interview process over multiple days. Fill out all the on boarding paperwork. Then not show up for their first day.

It seems they are! The industry is very short on staff, what’s that say? Somethings been changing over the years. Since COVID people have figured out working where unwanted, unappreciated, underpaid, doesn’t seem to be worth missing out on family/relations. Priorities! Life is short, treat people the way they should be and you want to be.

Right! I have techs leaving the industry for easier jobs and much more pay. Even in leasing 20 bucks an hour isn’t gonna cut it when you can do a remote job for a lot more and all you need is customer service skills

I agree! Maintenance for sure is underpaid! Managers many times are nothing but administrative rolls/complaints departments. And if upper management doesn’t have your back, for what ever the reason it’s a slippery slope!
A remote job can definitely be more appealing.
But all the money in the world will not be my reason for taking a position.
Life’s short, I want to give my best and enjoy my life!

It's happening because they want to say on unemployment. All they have to prove is they applied. It's rampant in the restaurant industry.

Once you learn that they don't show up to their job, someone missing an interview really won't be much of a surprise after all.

Are you finding that their first question is “how much is the pay”? I found that by beating them to the question by asking “how much are you looking to make” that I was able to get more to show up for the interview.

I had one last week. Why schedule it? You burned 30 minutes of my time bc I was waiting 15 minutes before and after

Even worse is when they go thru the entire hire process and even orientation but never actually show up for work & wont return calls.

I agree and even more alarming are the ones who claim to be property management professionals!

We scheduled an interview for a maintenance man and he never showed up… Called the next day and explained what happened so we gave him another chance. Didn’t show up AGAIN

It's so annoying. I schedule all my interviews in one or two days if possible and only 50% have been showing up.

We've been hiring for maintenance techs for two months.   Since we're government subsidized, we can't compete with communities who pay $27 an hour and offer an apartment.  Nevertheless, its just plain rude to agree to an interview and never show up.  Or accept a job, go to the clinic for a physical and drug test and never show up for the first day of work.   It's pretty hard to provide good service to low income seniors when we don't have any maintenance staff.  Even to contract out for services is a non-starter.  It takes a plumber a week to arrive for a leaking pipe.

I can think of two main causes for this: slow response times from recruiters/hiring managers and less than competitive offers. Advertising a job opening is no different than selling any product. If you can't attract customers, make a better product.
