Filed eviction on 2 residents on wednesday. Squatting, making no payment arrangements, have made no efforts to pay anything towards rent. Court date is March 2nd! I'm in houston texas. Court clerk told me it's because one property filed 65 evictions at once.

I don't think that's legal. If I'm not mistaken you have to have a court date within a specific time frame. Don't quote me thoigh

Its absolutely legal. It depends on the courts overall docket. Keep in.mind the holidays are coming up and courts tend to close and limit the dockets for evictions

Not to mention the fact that you haven’t been able to file for 20 months. It’s going to be insanity.

5 to 7 days I think is the court date from the date served. Also the time from court date for the writ to be available- if they don’t file a paupers

Unfortunately in Houston many of the judges were not hearing cases during COVID.

My company uses an attorney to represent us. We have gotten our court cases scheduled for hearing sooner.

Find out if you could be transferred to another JP for your evictions because of this delay.

65 evictions on one property, $9000 in eviction fees, and no commented! Wow. It has to be some kind of record.

Have all of you tried telling them that if they give you the keys in 1 week you won't put the eviction on their records. Just turn it over and have a chance at another apartment down the road

When I call the squatters, I mean they are not doing anything to pay. Taking full advantage of the situation. Not literal illegal occupants. These are lease holders.

Unfortunately, because of the backlog in the courts you can't get them out sooner. Have you sent them a non-renewal? Tried to get them on lease violations?

No lease violations other than one has a non registered dog. Going to try the "get out in 10 days and it wont go on your credit" route. See if that works, but I doubt it. Neither one has anywhere to go. I'm a submetered property and both of them are paying their monthly utility Bill's, so I dont even have the option of turning off their electricity.
