We need to stop glamourizing overworking ourselves! The ABSENCE of sleep, healthy diet, relaxation, time with family & friends, is not alright! It seems to me that employers expect more & more from employees & give less & less! STOP IT!! Say NO! We need to maintain a HEALTHY BALANCE in our lives. Burnout is NOT a badge of honor! #lifebalance #breathe

That’s why I recently left the apartment community! Loved my job but it was getting too overwhelming plus no family time.

The country as a whole is burnt out. Hence the labor shortages. Exhausted leaders will lead exhausted teams. It’s a recipe for disaster.

This could not be more true! Work to live. Not live to work. Life is so short and there's so much more than your career. This...coming from someone who absolutely loves her job and loves this industry! You must find balance. The better you are in your personal life, the better you'll be at work.

Well said. I love my job too. I am always so grateful that I love what I do and that I fell into this industry. Never boring, always challenged and always learning. That being said, you do have to have balance. You’re working for your family but trust me they would rather have you home.

So true. I worked day in and out. I was also pregnant during the pandemic just to get fired for high turn over when the entire country is experiencing record breaking quit rates. Exhausting and infuriating.

So true! When our property went through some major renovations about 10 years ago, I was pulling all nighters! Soooo wrong! My grandson cured me of being a workaholic!  My health was a mess back then. Awesome message. Don’t just read it you amazing people in this industry, live it!

My daughter and grandson lived with me for 2 years so I ran home to him every day! Cured!

Burnout is a real thing. But every single day, there is something that must be done. It cant wait. Invoices, payroll, financials, notices, vacancy, delinquents, renewals, make readies, leasing, marketing, social media, rent, budgets. It's never ending. And before you know it, there is 6 weeks left and the year is over.

I always take thanksgiving week "off". Next week, my "week off " consists of maybe 1/2 day off Monday, all day Tuesday, a few hours Wednesday (if close out goes smoothly) Thursday and friday are holidays. So 2 days vacation. I get 4 weeks vacation a year, I've taken a grand total of about 6 days this year.

Oh man oh man. There is still time! Take more time off. You’re entitled by law to do so. DO IT. This industry is amazing and HARD on us. It took me until I was 50 to go home at a reasonable hour.

I agree with you, there is always something that needs to be done!! And what doesn't get done today will be added to tomorrows work load. Whit more and more technology, the onsite staff has more and more to do. We must make a conscious effort to balance our time at work with our personal lives.

This is precisely why I left this business. The owners want blood and souls! It’s never enough! You give your all and that’s not enough. I’m done.

Preach Gerry! There is always going to be something - it doesn’t matter what industry or job you have. The only person you can change is yourself and how you want to respond. My mantra these days is I work to live not live to work.

Burnout has a cause. Often, this cause is understaffing our properties, which means that we don't have to put people through this burnout. We can fix 80% of the cases of burnout that we see, just with proper staffing and attention to mental health in our companies.
