What has a job given you instead of a raise?

Knowledge and opportunities for growth. There are so many things we don't consider a job gives us that are not equated to monitary or benefit gains.

I work in student housing so my answer is easy…..the best free entertainment on earth

PTSD and anxiety.

A Movado watch, tickets to the Kentucky Derby, vacations, extra vacay days

High blood pressure, anxiety, gray hair..

Amazing trips, all inclusive with my spouse to places I’d love to visit but wouldn’t necessarily have paid to go to otherwise. Large bonuses, freedom, life balance to be there to see my kid’s sporting events, not docking my pay while undergoing chemo and dr appts… if you don’t have this, find the company that appreciates you. But the key to finding these opportunities means you have to put the work in to earn it. The opportunities are there… but must be earned! No free rides! Oh.. and the best take away is meeting the best mentors and bosses that have become lifelong friends.

Heartburn.

Stress, the loss of faith in humanity, the dislike of people, and broke from being underpaid

Problem solving skills, Good friends, the opportunity to mentor many, the appreciation for my life and family and lots of funny stories

The freedom to be me. Be expressive. Safe environment to express my opinions and ideas. Training and constructive criticism. Team building. Also, stress.

My career in property management has given me so much so I couldn’t begin to list it all here. It’s sad to hear the negative comments. Every job has its moments but the rewards for me have been great (and not all monetary), but I also treated it as way more than a job, it was my career. I worked hard, got noticed, worked my way up by always doing more than expected. I’m part owner in the company I invested 25 years into and would never have imagined that decades ago when I started.

Me too! 38 years and I was given ownership. I was given stock in our company and part of a partnership which then purchased the GP interest of affordable housing. We just sold so that our now 450 employees and 14,000 apartments would be parked in a safe place … planning long term.

I never dreamed… I lost a parent in high school and was then in poverty.

However, I worked and worked to learn and excel. I never gave up no matter what and my boss never gave up on me… I’ve tried to lead our team the right way but as I look back, I see errors in judgement. I continue now as an employee of the company that purchased us and am learning new skills all the time.

One time they fired my direct supervisor because we weren't getting along. I had enough of the constant stress, so I found another job. The big boss met with me and was like, "would you stay if I fired _____?"

Self worth...they care about each and every one of us...and they show it...

A lasagna. Seriously, they gave each of us a frozen lasagna and said they didn’t have money for raises. But the directors were driving new BMWs. Companies have no problems raising rents, but raising salaries goes against everything their shareholders stand for, profits.

Gift cards

The promise of a $10k raise and then didn’t do it.

A bonus. Incentives for meeting deadlines in the way of gift cards or free PTO days. Allowance to take my family out to a super nice dinner as a thank you for my hard work. Tickets to a warriors game.

Love for an industry like no other, a company I believe in 100% and a daytime family that is second to none.

And some grey hair.

I worked in social work for many years. No bonus ever and rarely a raise but I had a ton of job satisfaction and learned so many valuable skills! I also learned that when you can no longer enjoy your job or see the positives, it’s time to move on!

Anxiety, COVID, and an eye for reg flags lol

The ability to critically think and solve problems quickly. Also the opportunity to teach and mentor professionals like myself. I work in a diverse and rewarding industry. Don't mind the pay raises and bonuses that come with the job either 

Fully remodeled my unit. New cabinets, vanities, quartz counters, sink and pull knobs. 1 kitchen 3 bathrooms. Sign my new lease with no rent increase.

Stress

Stress, anxiety mentally drained from lack of support and being on call all the time, loss of respect for humanity for the lies, understanding how to see backstabbing and the high school level of drama with adults and the understanding that I felt like a babysitter vs a manager at times.

A chance to spend time with incredibly fabulous people.
