Zillow Rentals – How’s the transition going for everyone?
For those who’ve migrated to Zillow Rentals, how has your experience been? I’m very frustrated with how they manage availability and waitlists—especially for high-demand, low-availability properties with established waitlists. It feels like they’re dictating the leasing process without recognizing that strong waitlists are built from multiple sources.
The way they bottle leads when the waitlist feature is turned on is a terrible solution. I’d much rather have direct access to my leads in real time, reach out to them, and properly vet them before adding them to my property’s waitlist.
I wish they handled this like Rent_com and Apartments_com, where prospects can still contact you even when there’s no immediate availability. I also wish the property phone number had more priority in the visual hierarchy of the listing design.
I may just cancel my advertising with them all together. Anyone else experiencing the same frustrations? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Look at this from Zillow’s perspective. If I am searching for an apartment, I want to know that there is availability, not a waitlist. If I’m using them to search for an apartment and am consistently getting a waitlist situation when availability is showing, that makes Zillow look bad and I’m going to switch to a competitor’s website. You’re trying to use it in a certain way and Zillow is saying ‘nope.’ Are you right to be annoyed? Yes. Are they right to do what they think is best for their customers? Yes. Quite honestly, cancelling your advertising with them may be the best solution for both sides.
One issue we’ve experienced is that Zillow took their application and the prospective said, “ We’ve already applied.” But we only accept applications via our site. It’s a bit misleading for the prospective.
