Fact 🆚 Fiction Friday

❌ Fiction: The property owner automatically owns all wiring in the building.

✅ Fact: Ownership of “home run” wiring depends on the contract with the provider. Home run wiring is the line that runs from the provider’s equipment to each individual unit. It feels like part of the building, but that does not mean the owner controls it.

Many telecom agreements give the provider ownership or exclusive rights to that wiring, even though it is installed inside the property.

This is where problems arise because owners assume they can easily switch providers, while new providers assume they can use existing infrastructure.

But if the original provider controls the wiring, access and reuse can be restricted or require negotiation.

That can delay transitions and increase costs.

👨‍🏫 Friday Tip: Before signing a telecom agreement, confirm who owns the wiring and what rights exist upon termination. Infrastructure control drives future flexibility.
