At the first complex I managed, I moved in and that night something woke me up. I glanced towards the open bedroom door and saw a man standing in the hallway at the top of the stairs. SCARED ME TO DEATH!!! I jumped out of bed and ran through the apartment looking for the intruder and found nothing. All my doors and windows were still locked. Needless to say, I didn't get any more sleep that night. I changed my locks first thing in the morning.

The next day, my first "official" day as a property manager, a resident came and asked if I'd seen the ghost yet. Not believing my experience was real, I said "what ghost?" She replied "the man at the top of the stairs."

Residents of all 10 units in the building saw this ghost and mentioned it to me multiple times over the next year and a half. Residents in the other buildings did not see it. The ghost, or whatever it was, at least turned out to be harmless. It would stand at the top of the stairwell every night in one of the apartments. Sometimes there would be a shuffling or minor throat clearing type noise. I noticed it in my apartment a few times a month. We named him Michael.

We have no ghosts in the building I now manage. :)

We should tell these stories again at Halloween!

Recording these incidents for sure is the correct action and reporting it. I have been on both ends of this. One this sort of situation dealing with something that cannot be explained (paranormal) is out of the normal manager’s realm of expertise, so you send it up higher for them to give the correct guidance. This then puts it into the powers that be hand and you have done your part.

I have also been over other managers and have had situations reported to me and I would look at it and try to determine what we were dealing with. I talked to my boss and said hey I am going to call the authorities, to get it on the record and then there is the medical field where you talk to those people that deal with possible mental issues.

They should come out under whatever identity to determine if the person where these things are happening in their right mind, or using something which maybe causing them to hallucinate. There are many roads, but I would get the law and medical fields involved to ensure that everything has been done to protect the tenant and the community.

I have had a similar event happen in my property. I have had 4 different residents report to me different incidences that occur in their unit. In one case, it actually got a little extreme... The resident asked for a transfer because they believed :S that there is a "demon" that is messing with a child in the house. Her description of everything sounded very scary. I suggested that she goes to a local church, and maybe have a priest "bless" the house. I was not too sure how to proceed with it, and my supervisor made me write an incident report, just case! :)

Unfortunately, I cannot fully say that I do not believe the residents. We have security cameras in the property, and one morning my playground was a mess. I decided to look at the security cameras to see if I could find the culprit, and low and behold, I saw a figure that closely resembles a ghost walking down the walk way!!! No kidding, I had to look at the image over and over again and eventually became convinced that it was a ghost that I saw. But... for my own sake, I have came to the conclusion that this image somehow was a mistake, a reflection of some sort, or something else. I have decided to elude my mind from thinking it is a ghost because I am a scary cat! And to top it off, I saw this image BEFORE the resident started to report the paranormal activities in the house. :S

We have an apartment that we jokingly (or not) say is haunted. My first day onsite I had a run-in with the resident there. She said I had a dark soul, was evil, and several other unflattering things. Two months later she became to ill too remain here and moved out. In the past 4 years we have leased that apartment TWELVE times! To date no one has stayed there more than 4-5 months at a time. No paranormal activity has ever been reported, but I can't help but wonder if the unit just has bad ju-ju...

Yep, there are two residents at the same property that believe there are "Spirits" co-habitating with them. The first time I heard from one of the Residents was during her renewal. Meaning no disrespect, I told her I would not charge her any extra for the other "occupants." Every so often, when I am there I ask her about them. The other person came to me and asked if I wanted to be present when the Myth Buster TV show comes to try to take photos and investigate. So, of course I said yes, let me know so I can schedule time there ... however, they never showed up and miraculously her ghosts have moved on. Gotta love property management!
