The Sessions To Check Out At RETCON

As RETCON is drawing near, I wanted to highlight sessions that are in my sights.  These are all multifamily-related, but I will probably branch out beyond our space, as there are always valuable lessons to be gained from other parts of real estate and beyond.

From Vision to Victory - Drive Change Through L&D

C-suite executives striving for a competitive edge often overlook a powerful ally: Learning & Development (L&D). When integrated into strategic planning, L&D transforms from a support function into a critical driver of change and measurable success. By involving L&D early in planning, organizations ensure their workforce is equipped to embrace and execute on change initiatives, from adopting new technologies to fostering customer-first strategies. Aligning learning outcomes with KPIs like revenue growth, innovation speed, or customer retention demonstrates L&D's direct impact on business objectives. L&D also acts as a catalyst for transformation, instilling the skills and behaviors required to turn vision into action. Neglecting this partnership can lead to employee resistance, lost productivity, and disengagement, while competitors leveraging L&D build agile, future-ready teams. L&D isn't just about training—it's about driving organizational transformation. By embedding L&D into strategy, aligning it with critical metrics, and empowering it to lead change, companies position themselves for sustained success. Vision becomes victory when L&D is part of the plan.

What I love about this session topic: Pendulums often swing, and as technological change has swept multifamily, I'm hearing too many stories about how we have taken our eye off the ball on the Learning and Development side. Besides, it is being led by one of my favorite speakers, Lori Snider of RedPeak!

Strong Data & Strong Decisions: Maximizing Tech and Data for Business Decisions

In multifamily, data is now everything. In a world that was once data sparse, multifamily professionals now have access to a treasure trove of data and intelligence. Data can allow savvy practitioners to make valuable decisions on both the property and portfolio levels. While adding value and creating efficient assets and operations, it's essential to harness the power of data. With growing access to information, this session will boost your business intelligence and empower you to make more valuable decisions.

What I love about this session topic: As more focus is being placed on leveraging AI for corporate decision making purposes, clean data becomes even more important.

How Greystar Innovates Like a Startup

How can legacy systems evolve to meet modern consumer expectations in an AI-driven world? In this session, Jordan Kobert shares his unique journey that led him to Greystar where he's bringing Silicon Valley startup principles to multifamily real estate. Through rapid iteration, a relentless focus on user experience, and real-time consumer insights, Greystar is redefining what property management technology can be. Explore how Jordan and Greystar's tech team are positioned to deliver solutions that feel as intuitive as consumer software, reshaping outdated processes and setting a new bar for customer-centered innovation in real estate.

What I love about this session topic: Simply put, understanding how the giant in multifamily leverages technology is a can't miss opportunity.

The Secrets to Success for Transformation

This presentation will cover the integration of needed skillsets, technologies and processes to create a truly integrated experience for residents. The goal is to create a data driven, technology enabled and process led process for improving the resident experience. This experience drives higher NOI and resident satisfaction while removing the friction in lease signing and renewal processes. The leasing function is at a turning point from previous technologies developed to meet individual needs to a space where residents and operators gain efficiencies from integration.

What I love about this session topic: Implementing technology isn't a magic solution. Each element a company rolls out requires processes and people to make that technology effective. Also, this should hopefully set the stage for our upcoming Leadership Lab on the impact of technology on the resident experience.
