Moving Day can be a headache for new residents, so one luxury apartment community offered two free hours of professional mover services and that gave their lease-up quite the lift.

Cardinal Moving, a locally owned and operated company based in Louisville, manages a fleet of 22 trucks and performs about 15 to 20 moving jobs per day. Summer is the busy season, and business hasn’t slowed because of Covid-19.

Cardinal struck an agreement with new luxury community Upton Oxmoor in Louisville where its services are promoted and discounted. The apartment company pays for the first two hours.

“We’re a concierge community and look for ways to elevate the residents’ experience,” Allison Zimmerman, Property Manager, Upton Oxmoor, says. “Moving can be a headache, especially moving the boxes and belongings. This helps to take care of at least one headache for our residents."

The nine-building Upton Oxmoor opened in April and Cardinal has assisted on 40 moves. None required more than the two hours, Zimmerman says. She says she knows of no competing apartment operator that offers this perk.

Renters also inquiring about new protocols of their moving companies. Online renter services community Roost suggests when shopping for apartment communities, always ask about potential discounts, and residents also should inquire about safety protocols used by their movers.

Moving season this summer has been brisk, despite Covid-19 fears. Cardinal has put in place rigid cleaning standards to protect its customers.

It created a fun video demonstrating its attention to cleanliness, which involves Lysol treatments to all the high-touch areas such as the dollies, door handles, pulldown grips, shelves, doors, steering wheels and then some.

All workers wear gloves and masks. Employees who feel any hint of symptoms are sent home, no questions asked, and are not penalized for missing the day’s work.

“Moving is actually a business where social distancing is not that difficult,” its Marketing Director Haley Moloney says. “It might seem weird to be allowing strangers into your home, but once the contract is signed, there’s not a lot of reason for the workers to be up-front and personal with the customers. We’ve not had any issues.”
