Rental Housing & Multifamily Data Analytics Insights

Insights From: Chandler Mead

Chandler

Meet Chandler.

As REBA’s Technical Support Specialist, he does everything from managing client support tickets and questions to helping the Implementation team with dashboard setups and data verification.

Although he says you wouldn’t know it when you saw him, Chandler is a big numbers guy. From an 8th-grade Business Intelligence class to a high school Accounting course, Chandler has continued to follow the data; landing him an internship (turned full-time job) with the REBA team.

“I have always been fascinated with numbers. I knew it when I was twelve in math class,

and I know it now. The way we use them for everything. I love seeing how a business uses them.

I find it very fun helping people understand their numbers and assisting them to maximize their potential.”

When he’s not verifying data or supporting clients, you’ll find Chandler balancing planning a wedding with his fiancée Rachel, chasing dog hair from his Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix, Luna, and working toward a BBA – Accounting & Finance from the University of Texas at Tyler. This full plate comes as no surprise to those who know him: Chandler believes in the value of hard work, doing the best at everything you do, and putting into something what you expect to get out of it.

Get to know our team Texan, Chandler, better below to learn the power of a really good belt and why 2-5 PM is the best (though not written about in any personal/professional development books) time for optimized productivity.

1. Describe yourself in a hashtag.

#easygoing

I’m one of the most easy-going, go-with-the-flow people. I usually keep my opinion to myself. But when I have an opinion, I’m pretty strong-willed about it. I like routine, processes, and the way I cook things. Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. I get the basic understanding of a dish online and then like make it my own. But I don’t like to be told how to cook my food.

2. If you could master any instrument, which would it be?

I play the acoustic guitar. I haven’t quite mastered it but I’m probably a campfire-level guitarist. I would love to master the piano. I love the way it sounds and the music you can play with it. It’s always been a favorite of mine.

3. What is your spirit animal?

I embody a bear pretty well due to my stature and the way that I am. I am 5’10 with wide shoulders. Bears are also calm until they’re not. Don’t poke the bear.

4. What’s the best gift you’ve received?

When I was 10 years old, I got Rock Band for the PS3 for Christmas and it was one of my favorite games. My 3 brothers and I would play together with me on the guitar, someone on drums, and someone singing. I play quite a bit of the Rock Band songs today on the acoustic guitar. My go-to is “Creep” by Radiohead.

5. What’s your secret talent?

I can carry any number of groceries inside in one trip. Growing up in a house with 3 younger brothers we got a lot of groceries, so I’ve practiced. I have dropped a bunch of stuff when I’m overdoing it, but the trick is, if you drop something, to just keep going. If you go back to try to pick it up you’ll drop more…always keep going.

As I’m picking things out in the store and see the buggy, I evaluate whether I’ll make it to the house in one trip or not. The 32-pack of water is definitely its own trip though.

6. What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

My whole life has been pretty adventurous because I’ve moved around so much. My dad was in the oilfield most of my life. I was born in Tyler, TX, and grew up in Chandler, TX (my parents swear this had no impact on my name). We then moved to Wyoming, North Dakota, then back to Texas.

I’ve started over many times in new locations and I’ve also been to a lot of places.

7. What is a clothing item everyone needs?

A good belt or a good tie. Everyone has to have a good belt -a nice, simple leather belt. It just puts everything together. Even if you don’t show it, a belt makes you feel like “Ok, my belt is on, I’m ready to go!” And then a good tie is just a must-have for a more formal occasion.

8. What is a quote or affirmation you live by today?

“This is a wonderful day; I’ve never seen this one before.” - Maya Angelou
Today is a new day, you get to see it. So, get up and make something of it.

9. What’s your favorite time of day?

I’m a mid-afternoon kind of guy. 2-5 PM is the best time for me. I get my best work done during that time of day because I’m wide awake, my brain is fully flowing & I’m most productive. I’m always in the zone then.

10. What is one thing no one knows about you?

I am a UIL Accounting Texas State Champion. It’s an hour-long team contest with 80 – 100 questions that focus on accounting. We competed against other schools and came out on top. I like to call it Forensic Accounting, where there were numbers missing and you had to identify them to make the equations right. It was basically a big puzzle you had to solve.
