What do you know about Web 3.0? Pain or Passion?

Are you frustrated or excited by the number of communications from groups, links, invitations to join and requests to be a FAN? Have you joined in? When will you join in? How far behind are you already? What do others know that you don't know? Can you afford to wait another day to understand Web 3.0 Social Networking?

Information is changing DAILY and a lack of vision today, may leave you devastated in the future.

I just completed the most extensive research project of my career and I am astounded by the discoveries. If knowledge is power – this new phase of online communication is NUCLEAR! We are experiencing dramatic innovation and communication changes in the middle of a deep economic recession. As parts of the world stand still, communication and online technologies are moving forward at light speed.

This year is different – this market is unique – this time it’s important to have the right plan! Make a note, Fall 2009 - the plan you use to navigate these new waters WILL greatly affect your success!

Have you seen the changes in:

Sharing your availability? Advertising & lead generation?

Traffic sources? Marketing your leads? Consumer decision-making tools?

Communicating with and managing your leads? follow-up?

Showing an apartment? Sharing your area? Pursued the consumer?

Outreach marketing? Village marketing? Resident discount programs?

Celebrating your community Lifestyle? Resident Relations?

Communication tools with resident? Managing events & social activities?

Marketing resident referrals? Providing resident referral selling tools?

This the first in a series of blogs on; What is social networking? Social filtering? Social Graph? Social CRM? Social Distribution? Hyper Targeting? Hyper segment? In the cloud? Cloud services & sales? Do you know how to blog, link, connect, fan, friend, follow, tweet and share?

I agree with the whirlwind scenario. I lived in Florida and went through many hurricanes, so my brain kind of feels like that. 6 months ago, I had no facebook, twitter, linkedin accounts. Now I have them all and actively use them. To be honest, I am still in the balancing stage, because there are many yet out there who do not engage this way as of yet, however I know its coming, so I am working hard to be prepared.

I have two facebook accounts one is just clients, audience and industry the other is friends and family. I am working with twitter and linked in but neither has stolen my heart like facebook. I wonder does our personality lean us toward one social site over another? Are straight to the point people more likely to tweet and people like me who are just looking for friends more prone to facebook? What site do you love and why?

I have one facebook account, but a facebook page for the company I market for. As far as twitter and linkedin, I treat them as separate entities, each serving its own purpose. Just from a statistical standpoint, it has launched our company high in the search engines. But I am with you on facebook, it has been a great tool to connect people and help us get to know each other better.

Neat observation about Facebook vs. Twitter. I think I'm probably one of those "straight to the point people" and I love Twitter. In all fairness, I'm a big geek and love pretty much all of the sites you're talking about (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.). They are all useful, but in different ways. Per advice from Lisa Trosien, I also have 2 accounts for most of the SM sites. It's a good way to direct my messages because I have a better idea of who makes up my audience.

A whirlwind indeed! I just hope time management software can evolve in order to help us keep pace - it's a lot of information to process but done right, it's so much fun, and the relationships you can build have real, lasting value. I'm looking forward to this series of yours

I can't wait to read more!

I've got a couple of different facets to my business. One part is a marketing service that targets apartment communties and the other is a locator service that markets to renters. I've found that I'm making the best connections to communities on Twitter and I'm making the best connections to renters on Facebook. Both are huge sources of new business for me though and it's exciting to be a part of the social networking craze.

I think of it much like "The Lion King" the circle of life. Linkedin-establishes who we are
Twitter-the way to contribute to our industry
Facebook-the way to connect as humans and build our relationships in a non business way(then the sidebar is our facebook page that does the business end)
and the circle continues

Eric, In my research I have heard the term Web 3.0 as the next evolution of the internet driven by social networks. The term is fresh and new and clearly determines a new era in online communication and business/personal interactions. A quick google search will show you blogs, links, designers, definitions and even a Web 3.0 Conference. http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/464-Basic-Definitions-Web-1-0-Web-2-0-Web-3-0

I have the same question as Eric. Your response did not seem to address what you specifically said in your post. What is "Web 3.0 Social Networking"? I can't find any information on that.
