LMAO.... all I did was give this kid a notice of non-renewal. His dad is his guarantor, and just texted him to talk to his son... that he's not man enough to talk to me like this. Hysterical! How would you react?

My heart is breaking over this because we've never had Aggressive breed restrictions, but the world we live in now, our insurance company is changing policy, and we now have to restrict aggressive breeds... they haven't shared a list with me yet, so I was wondering if y'all would be willing to share your lists of restricted dog breeds. Please and thank you.

So many wonderful pet owners are shut out of housing because of breed or size restrictions, and these policies are often shaped by insurance requirements or other barriers. I'd love to hear from others who have faced these kinds of hurdles or found ways to work around them. What’s made it hard to allow all dogs or all breeds and sizes? What helped you say yes anyway, or what was the reason you ultimately had to say no?

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience, Erik - and, unfortunately, your situation is not unique. Perceived breed is often a disqualifier for dogs when it comes to rental housing, despite no data to support that a particular breed is more dangerous or aggressive than another. In fact, recent research has shown that there is no correlation between pet dog genetics and threatening or biting behavior. Furthermore, identification of a dog’s “breed” mix through appearance is often inaccurate, with a 75% mistake rate. There are better ways to keep your properties safe and better ways for insurance companies to write their policies. Please reach out if you have an experience to share, positive or negative.
