Topic: What is your favorite part about property management?

What do you most enjoy about property management? The challenge of leasing to a new prospect, the ability to impact a resident's life, collecting rent (!), seeing financial improvements at the property, what??

I'll start: If you ask people about the favorite living situation they have ever had, you'll hear all sorts of interesting stories that often have little to do with the physical amenities. Usually, you will hear stories about how they had a lot of friends that shared common interests and hobbies living there, creating a vibrant place to live. So often, their favorite place was dictated by the experiences they had and the relationships they created. So my favorite part of property management is the idea of unlocking that secret recipe, so that our residents find common ground to build meaningful relationships, so that they not only renew, but would actually be devastated if they had to leave.

I find the opportunity for creative problem solving to be very inspiring!

The variety of challenges is fantastic, and makes the day pass by so quickly.

Because I work in affordable housing, for me the my favorite part is being able to help those with minimal incomes not only find housing, but find a "community" since my communities have become very close knit with all of the resident activities we do. VERY REWARDING. If you'd told me 5 years ago when I was in finance that I would be in property management and loving it, I would have laughed at you (I grew up around it since my mother has been in the field for 30+ years).

Leasing is easy. I have a waiting list >100 and only 80 apartments. :cheer:

What I enjoy most about property management is the moment a resident discovers that I genuinely care about their well-being. They know they can call me when they are lost and I will look up directions to get them home. I'll work with their schedule if they NEED to get a package that contains a textbook for a test tomorrow. They know I'll be honest and fair with them about what they will be charged when they cause damages, pay late or move out.

My secret recipe is love. I love my residents. Sometimes it takes me a while to find something to appreciate about them, but everyone has some good qualities, that if appreciated, will grow.
