Has anyone had any recent experience with ventless dryers? We are considering them for a new high rise, because of the difficulty running vent stacks, but I remember all of the nightmares from using all in ones 5+ years ago... Positives/negatives? Thanks for the candor!

I have one community with all ventless. They're a pain. The originals are about 9+ years old but we've replaced a number of them. The new ones are also prone to breaking, often take 2-2.5 hours to dry, and we have to really train residents about the cycle, cleaning, care and that the clothes will still "feel a little damp"but they're really not" so we don't get a ton of complaints.

I liked them. Had a highrise also that had them. We used the ventless frontloaders. With front loaders the washer uses less water so they aren't soaked when drying. I would suggest never getting a all in one that unit takes forever to dry.

Try and make them as accessible as possible. In the future you will be removing them all the time to replace or clean condensate drain pumps/sumps. Most I've seen make it difficult to access the sump where the drain is located as well. You can be looking at extended times for your maintenance staff to complete these tasks. All sorts of nasty gunk accumulates in there. This isn't a far down the road problem either, that will be within a few years of use. As mentioned above, set expectations with residents about drying time and the importance of them taking some care cleaning and maintaining the unit. I know. Good luck.

I wouldn’t work in a building with them, to many broken doors and calls that the clothes are not dry

I would be concerned about all the fumes from the clothes. Some of the synthetic fabrics, like fleece, can really put off a lot of fumes into the air.
