Did You Know: Facebook Prefers Businesses to Create Fan Pages?

How to get started:

Go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

1. Begin building your page by clicking the "edit page" link.
2. Upload a profile picture. This will be the thumbnail picture that appears in the user's fan box and on other pages, such as search results.
3. Edit the Information fields. Text in these boxes will surface the page when users search for keywords.
4. Upload videos or photos to get the conversation started. This will also bring color and life to the page.
5. Create a few wall posts or discussion topics to help users get warmed up and feel comfortable posting.

I don't know how I missed this blog post the first time, but great how-to guide!

The main problem with Kijiji (besides the name) is that you have to pay for making your links active. I'm not sure how much they charge, so it may not be material, but just a thought...

@Brent

Hmm, pay? I've never seen a link to pay (except for a top ad) and I have 18 listings with them currently. I like Kijiji because they let me see how many visits my listing has had.

I know on backpage you can pay to have your listing reposted to the top automatically. And I know that you can pay 4walls.us as well, to post photos.

I'm just an advocate for free classifieds, I've been spoiled by these sites!

Are your links actually "live"? (i.e., can somebody actually click on them or is it just normal text?)

No, my links aren't live. I didn't know you could pay to make them live. I just didn't think they support links. My focus is the phone call anyway, to record the conversation through Callsource.

What do you think about the changes to the new FB Fan pages?

I LOVE Them!

The new pages are a huge improvement!

There are still a few things that make the profiles more social, but I think it's going to be much easier to drive traffic now that businesses can leave status updates that will appear in the newsfeeds of their fans. On Facebook, if it doesn't show up in the newsfeed, it's like it never happened.
